Hair, Make-up and Super High Shoes

I know I have mentioned this before but I am a terrible girl… in fact you can read about it here and this week I have discovered another reason why this is true… well it’s not really a new discovery… but it’s a fact that has been confirmed… I cannot walk in high heels.  All last week I attempted to practice walking in my new shoes, shoes I wore on Saturday to my brother’s wedding… but they are really really high… and I am really bad at it.  By the wedding day I had started to get the hang of it, but I was still a little awkward and I couldn’t go all that far.  In the lead up to the wedding I decided to bake a cake in them, which was successful… so I took that to be a good sign, but weddings take longer than a cake… much longer than cakes!   I know it’s just a matter of perseverance… and that if I really wanted to I could learn to push through the pain barrier associated with such massive shoes, but I am not quite there yet.

Anyway, I am writing this blog because I have been quite proud of myself for committing to these shoes and practicing a little everyday around the house, although the cramps I got in my calves while watching TV is perhaps not the best sign… and the fact that my feet still hurt two days after the wedding and I can no longer stand on my tippy toes with any sense of stability…  But I have actually come a long way from where I was.  After reading my blog about the same issue from March in 2010, I have realised that I am no where near as bad as I used to be…

I now get my hair cut by a real hairdresser (not just a random shopping centre one I find at the last minute) regularly… and sometimes even coloured.

I now go to the same place to get my eyebrows waxed… so I guess that means I now have a regular beautician…

I now own more dresses… and am generally more interested in looking more ‘current’… we haven’t quite made it to fashionable yet.

I am still not that good at makeup and I can still only wear my hair in 3 styles, but that’s 3 steps in the right direction… maybe I am just getting older and now realise that it’s actually better if you are ‘booked in’ so that things actually happen rather than flying by the seat of your pants all the time.  Maybe I am actually more girly than before…. who knows… all I can tell you right now as I sit here typing with painted fingernails, make up on my face and a fresh hair colour, not wanting to put my feet on the ground in fear of the discomfort in the balls of my feet, is that I am pretty sure shoes shouldn’t hurt this much… especially when they look sooooo good… check them out below:

200 blogs later…

This is my 200th blog… well actually it’s my 203rd blog, because being the silly duffer that I am I forgot to post some Wordless Wednesdays and now I have moved this one down the list… anyway, it’s still a pretty massive milestone really, well I think so anyway… It’s taken me just over a year to get here and while it might still be only for me, I hope that others have found at least some of it, informative if not entertaining. I know recently my blogs have been a little disjointed and have had very little words, but they have still managed to do what I originally intended… record my life so that when I look back I can see what I have done and how far I have come…

In fact when I have a look at how far I have come from my very first blog I am actually amazed… and because I love a good stat… check this out:

It all started back in 2006, (on the 17th of June to be exact) with my first blog… which, unfortunately was self titled… but now I refer to it as ‘the original’… and there I posted 125 posts and had 1033 page views… some of my most hilarious work… and my original list of 100 things to do.

In 2009 after a little break there was ‘22 adventures’ which documented my journey to Castlemaine as a 22 year old… this was a particularly challenging chapter of my life and while perhaps not all of it made it to the blog I am so thankful that it is there for me to have as a reminder of how much I grew and the things I accomplished. Oh and on that blog even though it was only a year I posted 213 blogs 1147 page views

While I was posting my life away on 22 adventures I decided that I could also get a little bit of spiritual accountability from the blogosphere… enter ‘immeasurably more’… 50 posts and 276 page views

Once I turned 23 I wasn’t ready to quit… although I did not long after… but I moved on to ‘Just add one scoop of randomness’ which despite the fact that it lasted less than a year still allowed me to share 65 blogs of wisdom… and have 762 page views… and while I was blogging here I also started my very first project365… which had a blog of it’s own containing 117posts and 364 page views…

And now I am here… 203posts later and 5569 page views… and still going strong… well strongish and because I am sick of moving blogs… I am here to stay…

So if you do the math… that actually makes this my 800th blog… and 9151 page views… which… if you are a negative Nancy… or a Pessimistic Paul… is a lot of wasted time and words… but I am not so I don’t mind…

For me that is 800 moments of my life, good, bad, ugly, perfect and everything in between… there have been serious blogs, honest blogs, silly blogs and a whole lot of catching up. Even now it still isn’t quite where I want it to be, but I think it’s getting closer… maybe… I still wish I was more honest and felt comfortable blogging about the things that really burdened my heart, but I am not quite there yet. Sometimes I get super confident and put it out there, but most of the time I end up giving a tamer, more politically correct version of my thoughts, because just because I think them doesn’t mean they need to be, or should be shared… and most of the time it is actually better when my brain filter engages.

I don’t think there have been any life changing moments and I am pretty sure I have written about three of these blogs questioning the purpose of my blogging as well as promising to be more honest… in fact recently I have even been questioning whether I want all this stuff out there on the internet… but I think its too late for that now. Maybe one day in years to come they will dig up this website and I will become one of those anonymous women of history who people try to trace back and find the long lost family of… that would be cool… unlikely, but cool. I guess when I look back I have tried new things, had some fun adventures, and hopefully matured a little as I have gone… but when I look really close I am still the same Curious George I started as… just documenting life so that I can reminisce whenever I want to…

Twisted Chocolate

It’s been a while, but today I give you another curious George question… this is something that has been on my mind for a while, so I have decided to put it out onto the blogosphere and see what you guys think… One of my favourite silly party games is the chocolate game, which, for those of you like my husband, who are unfamiliar with the game, is played a little something like this… you need a block of chocolate… most often Cadbury, a knife and fork, some obscure items of clothing eg, gloves, hat/beanie, scarf, apron etc and a dice. Players sit in a circle around the chocolate and roll the dice, if they get a 6 they go to the middle of the circle, put on the clothes and then use the knife and fork to cut one piece of chocolate at a time and eat it. They continue until another person in the circle rolls a 6. It is a legitimate game… it even has it’s own wiki page… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_chocolate_game and apparently it is sometimes referred to as Dog’s Dinner… although I have never heard of that.

Anyway… my question is this… All my life I have played with the standard dairy milk block which looks like this….

There is now a new style of chocolate block… the Cadbury marvelous block… it’s shape is quite unique… it looks like this…

So which would be harder to play the chocolate game with? Would the odd shape of the marvelous block increase the excitement and difficulty factor of the game? Or would the reduced amount of blocks and the increased size of the block make it easier…

What would make a better chocolate game? Marvelous or Standard?

Thanks,

The curious and now hungry chocoholic George…

oh and please note that a depressingly small amount of chocolate was actually consumed by me in the making of the blog.

Pop Tart Imposter

On Saturday I made a discovery… and excellent discovery… I found pop tarts in the supermarket… well not real pop tarts but fake alternatives which are delicious.

As a kid my weekend breakfast was either nutrigrain (minus the milk) or Pop Tarts, these were the only things that my brother and I were allowed to ‘cook’ for ourselves before mum and dad got up… there had been a few accidents with unsupervised milk pouring.  Anyway, as a result I developed an unhealthy addiction to Pop Tarts… and nutrigrain… but mostly Pop Tarts.  This was all well and good until they suddenly became very rare in Australian Supermarkets… and when you could find them… expensive.  Since then whenever I find them… at a justifiable price, I buy them, because I don’t know how long it will be until I have them again. Even on our honeymoon in America I ate a lot of Pop Tarts just because they were there, it was strange to have them pretty much whenever I wanted.

Now I know that they aren’t good for me… but neither is bacon… or high sugar cereal… all which are considered valid breakfast options, but that is not the point… they are delicious, really delicious. Anyway, on the Saturday when I was at the supermarket get a few items I spotted these:

They look like Pop Tarts, smell like Pop Tarts and taste Pop Tarts, they are even imported from America just like Pop Tarts, but they are not Pop Tarts… but in the absence of real Pop Tarts I feel like I might have filled the void that had been left…

Here is the thing though…

If you are going to import these “Tasty Pastries” why not import the real thing?

Seriously… they are coming from America anyway… the real ones are even fortified with some extra vitamins and minerals… not that makes them that much better, but… well actually, I guess it does make them the better choice, but seriously… why? What is going on? Who is making these decisions?

Thanks,

The poorly informed about the import system, but ever Curious George

Happy Birthday Blog

Well here we are one year down the track of the most curious george… who would have thought… I am still actually really enjoying blogging, I am often behind, but I am still keen to make it work.  It’s nice to have it to look back on and see what I have achieved, what is still bugging me and to help keep pushing me forward.

I still don’t know if anyone reads it, and I still don’t really mind… although I am still hoping that I will be ‘freshly pressed’ but until then it’s just me, writing about me and my life.

I think in the next year of the blog I would like to be more vulnerable and honest… more opinionative… less sitting on the fence hoping I don’t offend people, because lets face it, that’s much more interesting to read… but it’s much harder to write… but I may as well try… what could I possibly lose?

Anyway, thanks for checking my blog out, maybe once or twice and seeing what I have to say… my site stats suggest that there is more than 1 person reading which is comforting, so I just want to say thanks and I hope that it’s been worth it, because I have been enjoying it.

Help… I don’t know how to stop!

Something I have discovered over my years of blogging is that I am a terrible blog finisher… in fact it’s probably the reason I don’t post a lot of things, I say what I need to but then I can’t bring it all to together and make it sound complete.  They just tend to stop… I am sure there is a skill to it, and perhaps I just need more practice… or perhaps I am trying too hard, if I just didn’t think about it maybe it would just happen, all I know is what ever this is… isn’t working.

Perhaps it’s because my blogs don’t have a specific format… My Curious George Blogs have an ending because they are asking for something and they have their own format, maybe that’s what I need a format for the rest… On my old blogs I used to have a tag line that I would use to tie it all together, for example on my original blog, back in 2006, I used the tag ‘Just a thought I had…’ which was ace but then there was an unfortunate incident and it stopped… When I had my 22 adventures blog I finished everything with some variety of ‘I guess that’s just all part of the adventure!’ which made sense because the blog as called 22 adventures… but now I have a blog, which is really just there for me to record and document my life as I see it and perhaps bring joy to a few people along the way.  It doesn’t have a particular feel or flavour and I kind of like it that way, but this is what I think is causing my problem… If they were letters I could sign of… if they were questions I could finish with the question (obvious I know), if they were all statements I could finish with some awesome tag line, but there are all over the shop… Maybe they have terrible ends because about now when I am writing I realise I am rambling and no one really cares about whether I have a tag or a purpose or if I even blog at all…

Anyway the point is I know it’s an issue and I am working on it, but if anyone has any suggestions… now would be a good time to share, perhaps even by using the comment button below…

What’s in a Name?

So ages ago some guy named William Shakespeare, in a little thing called ‘Romeo and Juliet’ wrote the line ‘A rose by any other name would smell as sweet’, but today I would like to dispute it…  I think there is a lot in a name… in fact sometimes I think that the name of a person or a animal can shapes who they are, perhaps I am wrong but let me give you an example.

I have a dog and his name is Dexter…  I have blogged about him before… 8 times there, also a couple more times here… in fact I have even blogged about this exact issues on a few occasions, but it’s time to bring it up again because the more I know Dex, the more I think it’s my fault… Now before we go any further I need to you understand that I really do love my dog… I mean what’s not to love about this:

But sometimes my dog makes me really really mad…

Just to be clear Dexter is named after the serial killer in the TV series Dexter, because as graphic and as morally disturbing as that show is… I love it.  He is not named after Dexter the robot from ‘Perfect Match’ or Dexter from ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’ although both of those shows did have their moment.  He is most defiantly names after the serial killer… and I think it has affected his personality as Dexter is a Destroyer… of everything… and most recently my shoe…

Never in my life have I had a dog that is able to destroy things like Dexter does… new toys are gone within minutes and recently we had to get him a new bed because he had ripped his own to shreds… and in the past he has:

Chewed through a seatbelt
Destroyed a leather chew toy
Brought us dead rats… often the same rat more than once.
Plucked a dead bird of its feathers and…
Eaten an entire collection of play dough

Now I know dogs often destroy things if they are bored or not walked often enough, but he is, and he has a massive back yard in which he can do as he pleases… Dexter destroys things because he wants to and because he enjoys it and I can’t help thinking if I had named him something different… well I might still have my shoe…

Perhaps if I called him Spot he would just love hide and seek… or if I called him Barry or Bruce he would be a better guard dog… or perhaps if, like my cousins, I called him Oink… he would be so confused that he wouldn’t have time to destroy, as he would be consumed by his thoughts, pondering exactly where he fits in the animal kingdom… Perhaps not, perhaps it doesn’t make any difference and he was always going to be a destroyer, but I have to be honest I do feel a little responsible.

Another year, Another list

Guess what… its 2012… HAPPY NEW YEAR!  So what will 2012 bring?  Who knows? I do know that it will have it’s own excitement, it’s own worries and its own crazy moment because these things are out of my control… I also know that like years gone before 2012, for me, has a whole lot of resolutions, goals, and random things I want to be able to say I have done by the end…. So also like years gone by I thought I would use my blog to share with you all 100 things that I would like to do/achieve in the coming year. Some of them I have attepmted in the past and even blogged about (in fact you can check out my own ‘lists’ here and here), and some of them I have never done or at least haven’t done for a long time anyway.  Its a mixture of all kinds of things…  So if there is anything you would like to do with me, or could help me with, just let me know, because a little help is always much appreciated.  Hopefully as the year goes by I will once again, be able to tick them off this not so little list and put a photo or a blog up about it…  But unlike the last two lists, I am going to try very hard not to let them take over the blog… I want them to be just a nice little addition, a side project if you will…
